Post Storm Update

For the most part, the storm behaved as expected. The main event brought us a total of 8.8 inches, with another 1.3 falling as upslope snow showers through the course of this morning. That storm total of 10.1 inches falls nicely into the 6-12 range that I forecasted yesterday. Although, it is slightly more than the 4-8 I had mentioned two days ago. While this storm will go down in the record books in many places in the Northeast, it doesn't even come close on Mount Washington. Although I would not categorize a 10 inch snowfall as normal this time of year, it is also not unprecidented. Consider that in October of 2005 on Mount Washington, nearly 79 inches of snow was measured for the month, including amounts of 18 and 24 inches falling in respective 24 hour periods.

As far as winds go, the peak gust today is 'only' 82 mph, which is a little less than I was expecting. Then again, as I mentioned a few times over the last couple of days, winds from the north never get quite as strong as the model numbers show.

Regardless, there is still plenty of snow moving around out there right now. Tomorrow, fog will clear, winds will decrease, and temperatures will moderate. So, I am going to try to find some time in the afternoon to venture outside and figure out where all the snow moved to, and maybe find a snowfield to ski!

P.S. Remember how I mentioned I would love to be able to head to Western Massachussets after this storm to find some skiing? Well, they ended up getting the most snow out of anyone in the northeast from this storm, with nearly 30 inches reported near Mount Greylock!

    While this early season Nor'Easter did not prove to be historic on Mount Washington, it did still bring a nice dump of snow. Between the main event and some upslope snow showers, just over 10 inches was measured for the storm.
