Pictures from the week 11-9-11 to 11-16-11

Time for more pictures! This time, I am bringing you shots from my last shift on the mountain (previous to the current one) stretching from November 9 to November 16. Right off the bat, we had a nice sunset on the evening of the 9th. At the time, the summit was in the process of clearing out of the fog, creating what we call 'in and out of the clouds'. When we were in the clouds, it was only a thin veil covering the summit, allowing for some interesting optical effects:

Looking away from the sun, the passing clouds allowed a glory to form around the shadow of the Observatory tower:

A couple days later, I couldn't resist snapping a shot on 11-11-11 at 11:11 a.m. There's nothing special about this picture, just documentation of what it looked like at that very unique moment in time, on Mount Wahsington:

On the 14th, we had a nice clear day with good visibility. Marty, the Observatory pet and mascot took in the nice view from the windows in our Weather Room:

That evening, there was also a very colorful sunset:

On our last night for this particular shift, we were treated to a very nice sunset, with some good color and interesting clouds, including some lenticulars:

That's it for this entry. I head down the mountain tomorrow, but will be creating an entry featuring pictures from this past shift before I leave. Then I will finally be caught up (yay!) and I can move on to writing about other things!

    Winter came back, and with a vengeance! Winds peaked at 117 mph on Thursday morning while temperatures also fell to more seasonable levels than we have seen lately. All this has certainly brought the feeling of winter back to Mount Washington.

  • Post Storm Update

    While this early season Nor'Easter did not prove to be historic on Mount Washington, it did still bring a nice dump of snow. Between the main event and some upslope snow showers, just over 10 inches was measured for the storm.
