Lunar Eclipse 2010 Images!
Dec 22, 2010; 7:34 AM ET
Hello, astro-nuts!
I hope many of you were able to catch the beautiful lunar eclipse early Tuesday morning. If not, no worries, I'll have some great pictures for you and a link to a time elapse of the event! Meanwhile, with tanking tests completed, Discovery has been rolled back to the enormous Vehicle Assembly Building for further tests.
2010 Lunar Eclipse Footage
For those of you who had to miss this week's lunar eclipse because it was too cold or too cloudy, no worries...you can find some stunning footage all over the place, and I'll have some of it here for you today. First, have a look at this incredible time lapse of the eclipse. Secondly, a terrific photographer in my astronomy club, the Central PA Observers, took some great shots over the course of the event. Here are a few of them...

Here's an awesome picture of Discovery and the Moon during the eclipse:

Discovery Heads Back To The Vehicle Assembly Building
Following Friday's successful tanking tests on the launch pad, crews started rolling Discovery back to the gargantuan Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) at Kennedy Space Center Tuesday night around 10:48pm. The rollback had actually been delayed from its originally planned time of 1:30am EST Tuesday morning because of an issue with the leveling system on the "crawler" used to transport shuttles to and from the VAB.

Discovery arrived back at the VAB just after 6am Wednesday morning. While back at the VAB, technicians will be meticulously scanning areas under the foam insulation of all the support beams on Discovery's external tank (stringers), and remove the sensors used for the tanking test. It is also expected that Space Shuttle Program Managers will decide by December 30th whether modifications of some of these stringers would be necessary.
Keep your eyes to the sky and enjoy the view!
