Updated Storm Snowfall Map

Jan 31, 2012; 10:08 AM ET

We made some changes to the snowfall forecast for eastern and Atlantic Canada through Wednesday night.

The storm looks a little stronger and the overrunning snowfall looks more impressive as mild air tries to move over a cold, low-level air mass. Parts of south-central New Brunswick, PEI and the Cape Breton area could end up with a quick 15-23 cm out of this one with the heaviest snow Wednesday morning and afternoon.

The storm will start as snow for the southern half of Nova Scotia then slowly transition to freezing rain then rain showers.

I believe the heaviest precipitation will pass just south of Newfoundland and the storm will be moving quickly, so 8-15 cm looks good for southeastern Newfoundland Wednesday night.

There will be a period of freezing rain tonight and early Wednesday morning from parts of southern Quebec through central Maine as the mid-levels warm above freezing, while the surface temperatures remain below freezing.

I will post my February forecast by this evening.
