Signs Pointing to a Hot Start to Summer in the East

May 28, 2010; 1:09 PM ET

After looking at the new update of the weekly long range forecast output from the ECMWF model, it looks like much of eastern Canada and the eastern U.S. will be off to a hot start to official summer later in June.

Here is my latest interpretation of what the overall weekly pattern looks like through the end of June. By the way, much of mid- and late June looks unseasonably warm and dry in California and most of the southwestern U.S.

Just ignore that big red circle over northeast Ontario. I got interrupted by my two-year-old and left the spray paint tool in one spot.
