Large Temperature Contrast and an Update on the Long Range

August 14, 2012; 1:56 PM

The weather pattern later this week will produce a significant temperature contrast from west to east. The jet stream will collapse across the Midwest and allow a shot of September-like air into the Midwest and Great Lakes.

In the West, the core of the heat relative to normal will be centered along the Pacific Northwest, especially from Seattle, Wash., to Medford, Ore.

The map below shows the timing and track of the strong cold front charging south and east this week.
