This video shows a forecast for the rest of the week. I use a different kind of map to illustrate the main forecast challenge: determining the extent to which a storm on the Carolina coast will expand its influence.

This pressure analysis shows how there is an easterly flow of cool but increasingly moist air dominates the Carolinas, while sunshine dominates farther north.

This is the kind of situation where a low pressure area gains strength off the coast. Soon the increasing pressure difference between the storm and the high pressure area to the north generate increasing northeast winds. This means high seas and beach erosion. Heavy rain breaks out, and the cloud shield out away from the storm center expands its influence.
