Former Yuba City police officer pleads guilty to federal bribery charges

A former Yuba City Police Officer pleaded guilty to federal bribery charges stemming from his work on a drug trafficking operation, the Department of Justice reported Friday.

Harminder Phagura, 36, gave information to Gursharan Phagura, a known drug dealer, who gave this information to an undercover officer posing as a cocaine trafficker in exchange for money. Harminder Phagura obtained the information through his position as a police officer in Yuba City.

Over the course of several undercover operations, the undercover agent paid a total of $6,000 for the information. The Yuba City Police Department receives grant funds from a Federal program.

Harminder Phagura faces a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.

Co-defendant Gursharan Phagura is charged with possessing, with intent to distribute, cocaine. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and will face a jury.
