5 small fires breakout along Feather River

5 small fires breakout along Feather River

Cal Fire Butte County had their hands full Monday evening, responding to several grass fires along the Feather River.

Cal Fire Battalion Chief Mike Shorrock says they received a call around 6:30pm that there was a small fire burning along East Gridley Road near the Feather River.  Soon after there were reports of several small fires, along the west side of the river.  Shorrock says when you get multiple fires at the same time, it can stretch a unit pretty thin.

Shorrock says, "Fortunately there are no other fires burning in the unit, within the county so the resources here aren't putting too much of a dent.  We have the stations covered.  Things are winding down so we're making releases quickly.  So I would say it's sort of a normal day in the summer time season."

Shorrock says combined, the fires totaled about three acres.  Cal Fire had assistance from Gridley volunteer crews and a crew from Magalia.  All the fires are fully contained, firefighters say they'll remain on scene through the night to continue mopping up.
