'Combative' woman found under home being fumigated

Crews said they had to wrestle a woman out from underneath a home being fumigated Tuesday morning.

Bradenton police said they think 25-year-old Shaina Zsira tried to hide inside a home, which was tented and being treated for termites. Officers said she was high on heroin, and hiding after a neighbor called 911.

"It is just so crazy what these drugs can do to you, and then you wind up doing something like that," a neighbor told FOX 13 News.

The City of Bradenton Fire Department said firefighters were called to the home just before 7 a.m., but Zsira refused to come out. After an hour, firefighters said they believe she ran under the house, between the wood slats, and into the home's crawl space.

"She was screaming and yelling, and every time we tried to get close to her, she would run," Bradenton Fire Captain Eddie Corsino explained.

Considering the hazardous chemicals involved, BFD said firefighters asked the for the fumigation tent to be removed, and then crews put on HAZMAT suits so they could safely go under the home to remove and decontaminate Zsira.

It took three firefighters and two police officers to get Zsira into custody.

"She is very lucky, she is very lucky," Capt. Corsino said.

BFD said Manatee County EMS then evaluated, treated and transported Zsira to a local hospital. She will be charged with violating probation on a previous drug charge.

BFD said firefighters were also decontaminated. One complained of nausea, so they were taken to the hospital and later released.

The incident has gotten attention around the neighborhood, in a county that has reportedly had more heroin overdoses than any other in Florida.
