Florida man suing his Minnesota 'millionaire matchmaker'

After spending hundreds of thousands of dollars unsuccessfully seeking love, a Florida man is suing his Minnesota matchmaker. While the heart of the lawsuit concerns a business investment -- not the actual matchmaking -- the 20-page complaint provides a glimpse into the world of millionaire matchmaking.

According to the federal lawsuit, Hammond Meredith hired Kailen Rosenberg for her "elite matchmaking," starting in 2012, and would pay her $400,000 over several years. The suit says, despite assurances Rosenberg would exclude "gold-diggers," she sought matches by describing Meredith as a "millionaire" from "one of the most prominent, aristocratic families in the world," and used a "cattle call" to find 600 prospects.

Additionally, the suit claims Rosenberg traveled to Ireland, London, New York City, and Nashville to look for matches, sending invoices to Rosenberg. Meredith's lawyers complain Rosenberg pitched a television show about his search without his permission.

However, the focus of a lawsuit is a business opportunity turned sour. The lawsuit claims Rosenberg told Meredith he could see a match if he considered investing in a new, online dating club called "The Lodge." Meredith's business initially sent $50,000 to "The Lodge." But the suit claims additional payments did not go to the online club, and that, despite promises, the club did not have "millions" in investments and lacked a business plan. According to the civil complaint, the disagreement led to Rosenberg threatening to reveal confidential information about Meredith.

The lawsuit asks for the return of money advanced to Rosenberg for "The Lodge," and for Rosenberg to stop demanding Meredith pay her additional fees for matchmaking services.

Neither Rosenberg nor her law firm returned Fox 9's requests for comment.
