Crowds show up for Deborah Cox at St. Pete Pride

The state's largest gay pride parade is this weekend in St. Petersburg - just two weeks after the horrific shooting at the Pulse Night Club in Orlando.

It was the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. it would also unite a community like never before.

"This has showed us, we're not going to back down from you. We're going to stand up and hold each other's hand and go thru this," said event-goer Pamela Llera.

"This pride event tells me I don't need to be afraid," said Vickie Tanner.

Friday evening, Pride's free concert took over Central Avenue and 26th. Headlining the show was Deborah Cox.

Proceeds collected from donations go to charities throughout the Tampa Bay region.

"We're out here to celebrate and have a good time," said organizer Scion Provenzano

This weekend's turnout could be the largest in St. Pete Pride's history. It will also be the most heavily secured.

Several police agencies will be patrolling, armed with high-tech cameras and surveillance.

"If you want to feel safe, have a good time, party with friend,s this is the place to be," Provenzano said.
