Biker's family searching for hit and run driver

Relatives of motorcyclist Steven Rodriguez, 54, are seeking answers after he was injured by a hit-and-run driver early Thursday afternoon.

According to a public information report issued by Minneapolis Police, officers found the Rodriguez lying south of the Lyndale Avenue North and 22nd Avenue North intersection.

As a result of the crash, Rodriguez suffers from a major right leg injury, broken vertebrae and other abrasions.

"Somebody ran a stop sign and slammed into him and took off," said the victim's wife, Kathy Rodriguez.

Admittedly frantic, Kathy wants nothing more than for the hit-and-run driver who landed her husband in the hospital to be brought to justice.

"It's hard right now keeping it together knowing what he had to go through because somebody was stupid and the person didn't even care," said Kathy Rodriguez.

Steven Rodriguez has already undergone two surgeries since the crash.

His family members, eager to hear from police, have even personally spoken to witnesses in search for clues about the suspect.

"It's crazy to me that someone could do that and not even bother to see if he was okay," said Steffany Rodriguez, Steven's daughter.

Steffany worries her father will no longer be able to play with his grandchildren the way he once did.

"Not only because of [his] neck but because [his] leg will never be right again," she said.

Kathy also fears even after recovery her husband will be seriously limited all because a driver failed to stop.

"I'm worried. I want my husband back," she cried.

The suspect's car is described as a grey, silver or tan Grand Prix or Grand Am four-door sedan.

Minneapolis Police are still investigating Rodriguez's case.

So far no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call Minneapolis Police or 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
