FOX 9 Minneapolis Headlines

Second woman in vehicle shot, killed in North Minneapolis

Minneapolis police are investigating after a woman was found fatally shot inside a vehicle late Monday night.

At 11:15 p.m., police responded to 1800 Penn Avenue North after someone was reportedly shot, and found the woman inside the vehicle. She died shortly after being transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. Her identity has not been released.

Investigators are conducting interviews, including people who were in the car with her. On Tuesday, officers will be in the neighborhood to discuss the crime, and police said people are strongly encouraged to speak with them.

Just over one month ago, a 59-year-old grandmother, Birdell Beeks, was shot and killed by a stray bullet inside her vehicle at the intersection of Penn Avenue North and 21st Avenue in broad daylight -- not far from Monday night's shooting. Police have not said if the incidents are related in any way.

On June 4, more than 100 people, including Beeks' family, marched down West Broadway in North Minneapolis in a stand against gun violence.

"The message is that the community is tired. We're tired of the violence," Salesha Beeks, the daughter of Beeks, said.
