Veterans group Team Rubicon assists with Duluth storm cleanup

Weeks after severe storms ripped down trees and power lines, Duluth residents are still cleaning up the damage. But a group of veterans is stepping in for much needed assistance.

On Church Road the sounds of wedding bells are just a few weeks away. But before Grant Johnson and Krissy Leatherman can walk down the aisle, they have to remove a gigantic tree that fell on the property.

Twenty volunteers from "Team Rubicon," a non-profit group made up mostly of veterans have been helping to get Duluth storm damage cleaned up.

"What we are doing is working on private property to help get their lives back to normal," said Dave Korus, the Minnesota administrator for Team Rubicon.

Korus says it's guys like former Army ranger Mike Troutt that make big jobs like this look easy.

"We've started on the farther end, limbing it down, slowly working our way toward the root bulb up here," said Troutt.

Across the property dozens of trees were knocked down by two powerful July storms.

Owner Grant Johnson who works for Minnesota Power says the help came just in the nick of time and thanks to the hard work of these volunteers the wedding is a go.

"It's been amazing," said Johnson.
