Loved ones close to the victims ache as they mourn the loss of the family who died in yesterday's fatal crash.
Only one day after Sheila Shockley lost her close friend's life, she shares special moments around Sierra Canon's character and her family's story.
“Sierra was my second daughter,” she said.
Shockley knew Canon since she was 13 or 14. She says her and her daughter were really good friends.
“We just connected, we went through a lot together,” she said.
She says her country roots were strong
“Honestly she was a county girl,” Shockley said. “She listened to country music. If she could get herself on a 4-wheeler and get muddy that was Sierra. She wanted to be a mechanic one time because she doesn't mind getting dirty.”
And every room she entered lit up with energy
“Sierra is going to look at all of us right now and say ‘omg everybody loves me.’ Her smile and attitude was so amazing. She always had a personality and would always find the good in everything.
Shockley says Cannon was raised in the foster system and struggled with a drug addiction, but the 3-month old baby boy's father, Blake Nehlig, became clean with her.
“When they got together it seemed like they built this bond and they both got clean together,” she said.
She is still unsure how the fatal accident happened.
“He worked long hours at Ulsons, maybe he just dozed off,” she said. “I really do not know.”
But feels that things happen how they are meant too. Cannon passed away on her father's birthday.
“God does things for a reason,” she said. “But she walked into heaven to meet her dad with her husband her man and her baby.”
Most importantly, Shockley wants to tell her adopted children to be strong during this difficult time.
“Pull together right now and do the recovery,” she said. “In the name of sierra, if sierra can do it, and she died clean other people can too.”
Shockley says a funeral service has not yet been planned.
