In Paradise, the local chapter of Disabled American Veterans hosted a Memorial Day service.
The program included an honor and color guard presenting the flag, and a wreath laying ceremony to honor our fallen heroes.
Paradise resident Stan McEtchin was the featured speaker.
At 91, he talked about his World War II experiences as a member of the US Army's first special force, what we now know as the Green Berets.
People think freedom is free, but it's not free,” McEtchin said. “Somebody had to put their axed on the line, you know to do that. They made the ultimate sacrifice.”
The Paradise chapter of the Disabled American Veterans was also responsible for the American flags that graced the cemetery today.
