Students Shine at Oroville Exchange Club Search for Talent

Students Shine at Oroville Exchange Club Search for Talent

Talent was abundant at the Oroville Exchange Club Search Talent Event Saturday night. 32 students from South Butte County took part in the 6pm show at the State Theater on Myers Street in Oroville. The event was sponsored by the Oroville Exchange Club, the Butte County Office of Education and the State Theatre Arts Guild.  The students ranged in age from 6 to 18 years old. The show has been held in Oroville for 30 years. Sheriff Kory Honea hosted the event, which showcased the local talent and is designed to encourage young people to take part in performing arts. The State Theatre was packed with family and friends of the performers.  The performers were judged in four categories, including Showmanship & Personality(30 points), Excellence and Performance(30 points), Difficulty and Technique(30 points) and Costume and Appearance(10 points).

WINNERS:  First place in the Primary Division, (Ages 6-10) went to Ileana Arivett who sang.  In the Junior Division (Ages 11-14) Kira Hickman won 1st Place for her dance routine. In the Senior Division, Devin Cheng, David Cheng, Forest Wong and Hunter Wong took first place playing the cellos and piano.  All the performances were outstanding. Each student who performed received a certificate and the top 3 in each division won medals.  There were 4 judges, including myself. Thanks for the invitation Oroville Exchange Club. It was an honor to watch talent of such high caliber.
