City leaders and members of the community gathered this morning for a flag dedication ceremony at Redding electric utility in southeast Redding.
There was no flagpole when the city purchased the office building for the utility provider in 2015.
REU Communications manager Patrick Keener said they were so preoccupied with getting the inside of the building ready to move in, they forgot the outside.
“The flagpole was installed last week, and we thought going into the Memorial Day weekend how appropriate would it be to have a flag-raising ceremony to honor the 1.2 million American Veterans who have lost their lives to defend that flag,” Keener said.
The mayor was on hand to dedicate the flag and flagpole and gave a special American Flag lapel pin to the veterans employed by REU and those in the audience.
