Loose truck tire skips over highway median, slamming into Minnesota couple's SUV

An elderly couple was driving in Minnesota Tuesday when a tire from a tractor-trailer smashed into their vehicle.

Louis Bruenning's car is now totaled after the tire came flying off.

"Tire came off the truck on the other lane, bounced across the median, and hit me. I tried to swerve, but there was nothing to do," Bruenning says.

The tire smashed into the front end of Bruenning's SUV, narrowly missing the couple.

"If it had hit the windshield, I don't think we'd be alive," he says.

Miraculously, he was not hurt, but his wife was brought to the hospital for a minor shoulder injury.
