A man was arrested early Thursday morning after he managed to sneak past the North Security Checkpoint at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. It is the second security incident in as many weeks at MSP.
According to the criminal charges, Desmond Crofford Jr., 20, was spotted at 12:20 a.m. on June 23 walking through an unmanned, closed screening lane and magnetometer. The complaint says he gained access to the "sterile area of the Terminal" and made it all the way to the restrooms at the top of the E Concourse.
Crofford admitted he did not have a valid boarding pass and said he needed to use the bathroom and didn't see anyone at the checkpoint. He remains in the Hennepin County Jail and is charged with bypassing security screening, a misdemeanor.
Crofford has apparently been on a roll.
Ten days earlier, May 13, Crofford was arrested at the Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC). Employees at the hospital saw Crofford acting strange and walking into a secure area of the hospital where the finance department is located. Crofford had allegedly stolen an access key to the area and was also seen stealing a phone charge. While sitting in the squad care, he allegedly told the officer, "I don't know why I did it… I was just bored I guess." He is charged with third-degree burglary, a felony.
At the time, Crofford was on conditional release for a theft case at the Eagan Outlet Mall. On May 11, officers had to chase and tackle Crofford who's accused of attempting to shoplift clothing from the Saks Off Fifth and Ralph Lauren Polo store. According to the theft charges he attempted to steal $518 in merchandise.
