Workers hauling away debris from the buildings that exploded in East Harlem recovered a Bible belonging to the Spanish Christian Church, which was located in one of the two destroyed buildings. Emergency workers are attempting to reach the basement levels of the buildings, looking for new clues into what caused the blast that killed eight people. The rescue operation was continuing in case unknown people were buried beneath the rubble, said city Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano.
A spike in severe thunderstorms, capable of producing tornadoes, will follow a slow start to severe weather season in 2014.
