An all clear was issued at Joint Base Andrews following a lockdown due to reports of an active shooter.
The situation began around 9 a.m. Thursday when reports of an active shooter incident on base near the Malcolm Grow medical facility were first reported. Personnel on base were quickly directed to shelter in place and first responders were called to the scene to secure the location.
Officials with Joint Base Andrews say that the report of the active shooter incident came out while the base was conducting an active shooter exercise.
Joint Base Andrews Public Affairs released a statement to FOX 5 saying, "We are reacting to a report of a real world active shooter. The call occurred during an exercise. Because the report came in as a real active shooter we have to respond accordingly. We are treating as if it is and no further information at this time."
FOX 5's Paul Wagner reported that when Prince George's emergency personnel offered assistance to Joint Base Andrews they were told that they were not in need of assistance at the time. Fire crews, however, were proactively sent to a nearby fire station as a precaution. A Department of Defense confirmed there is an active shooter situation ongoing at the base.
