Deputies: Three children die in Polk County crash

Polk County deputies are investigating a crash that killed three children Saturday evening. Deputies said the crash happened around 8:40 p.m. on Cypress Parkway in Poinciana. According to investigators, a driver lost control of his Lincoln sedan, fishtailed and then hit a Jeep SUV head-on. There were three juveniles in each vehicle. Deputies said the driver of the Lincoln, 25-year-old Javier Aguilar, was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center in critical condition. His front seat passenger, 35-year-old Brittany Collins, was listed in stable condition at the hospital. The three children in Aguilar's vehicle were identified as Meliyna Aguilar, 3, Melanie Hernandez, 3, and Anthony Rubio, 6. Rubio was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the other two are said to be in good condition. The driver of the Jeep, 39-year-old Richard Persaud, was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Two of his passengers, Leila Persaud, 6, and Maylee Persaud, 8, were killed in the crash. Deputies said the front seat passenger, 35-year-old Amanda Persaud, is in stable condition. A 15-year-old who was in the Jeep, Ariena Larkin, was taken to the hospital in serious condition. The Sheriff's Office said wet roads may have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
