Man sheds clothing, plants himself up a tree naked

A bizarre situation is turning a few heads in Chico this morning, but rather than around, he's turning them upward.

Chico Police Officers and Chico Fire Department are at a scene near the University Village apartments on Nord Avenue where they say an unidentified man is stark naked and up a tree.

Witnesses said the ordeal started when the unidentified man was walking down Nord Avenue in the nude. Several individuals attempted to contact the man, who got spooked and fled. He climbed to the roof of one of the University Village buildings and was spotted. He then transferred over to one of the complexes many large trees.

It’s not clear why the man shed his clothing nor made his way up the tree and has now refused to come down.

Negotiations are underway to get the man to come down voluntarily, otherwise police say they will have to go up there and remove him from the tree.

Action News Now’s McKenzie Nelson is on scene and will provide updates as they are known.
