Officials: West Nile Virus now Wide Spread in Butte County

Butte County officials today announced that the mosquito-borne West Nile Virus is now widespread in the valley.
The Butte County Mosquito and Vector Control District has now received confirmation of 13 infected residents, 43 separate pools of infected mosquitos identified, 33 infected sentinel chickens and 15 dead birds so far this year.

The West Nile Virus hot spots in the county are, in or near Chico, Biggs, Dayton, Gridley, Nelson, Palermo, Wyandotte, Honcut, Hamilton City and outlying agricultural areas. The District is urging all county residents to take all precautions necessary, including draining any standing water, and if you have to be out at dusk or dawm, wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts and shoes along with using insect repellant.
