Man Who Discovered 'Carolina Emperor' Dies in Mining Accident

56-year-old Terry Lee Ledford was mining for gems in the Hiddenite area Wednesday when the trench he was in collapsed on top of him - trapping and killing him. Ledford is known for discovering the 'Carolina Emperor' back in 2009. It's the largest emerald ever unearthed in North America.
