Severe Weather Alerts - Del Mar, CA

    • Beach Hazards Statement

Beach Hazards Statement in effect until Saturday, 11:00 PM PDT. Source: U.S. National Weather Service

...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SATURDAY
    EVENING...

    * SURF...3 TO 6 FT AT ORANGE COUNTY BEACHES AND OCEANSIDE
NORTHWARD IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY. SURF WILL GRADUALLY SUBSIDE
    TODAY.

    * TIDES...HIGHEST TIDE OF AROUND 7 TO 7.3 FEET TONIGHT AT 909
PM...AND AROUND 6.9 TO 7.2 FEET SATURDAY NIGHT AT 955 PM.
LOWEST TIDES WILL BE AROUND -1 TO -1.5 FEET SATURDAY AT 424
    AM.

    * IMPACTS...STRONG RIP AND LONGSHORE CURRENTS WILL INCREASE THE
RISK OF DROWNING...ESPECIALLY FOR INEXPERIENCED SWIMMERS. HIGH
TIDES ABOVE 7 FEET MAY PRODUCE MINOR TIDAL OVERFLOW FOR LOW
    LYING AREAS.

    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

SWIM NEAR A LIFEGUARD. IF CAUGHT IN A RIP CURRENT...RELAX AND
FLOAT. DON'T SWIM AGAINST THE CURRENT. IF ABLE...SWIM IN A
DIRECTION FOLLOWING THE SHORELINE. IF UNABLE TO ESCAPE...FACE THE
SHORE AND CALL OR WAVE FOR HELP.

A BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT FOR MINOR TIDAL OVERFLOW MEANS THAT
HIGH ASTRONOMICAL TIDES MAY PRODUCE MINOR FLOODING OF LOW-LYING
AREAS ALONG THE BEACH SUCH AS BEACH PARKING LOTS. COASTAL
OFFICIALS SHOULD TAKE THE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES TO
    SAFEGUARD THEIR BEACHES.
