Domestic Violence suspect gets 11 years in prison for abuse

Domestic Violence suspect gets 11 years in prison for abuse

A suspect believed to have been responsible for years of domestic violence was sentenced to 11 years in prison Friday afternoon in a Shasta County Courtroom.

Branden Gagnon was sentenced Friday based on an April conviction for multiple counts of domestic violence involving a single victim.

During the trial, the unidentified victim relayed countless abuse events throughout the years.

The victim said during one argument that got particularly violence, Gagnon knocked her to the ground and dragged her into the home. Inside, he strangled her with a length of wire, rendering her unconscious and nearly causing her death. Gagnon then called 911 to report that he had found the victim hanging in the house from an alleged suicide attempt.

Gagnon was convicted of six felonies: assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, false imprisonment by violence, kidnapping, and two counts of corporal injury.

Due to the violent nature of the crimes, Gagnon will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
