...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM CDT THIS EVENINGTHROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LINCOLN HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF CENTRAL ILLINOIS AND EAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS...IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS...DE WITT...MACON...MCLEAN...MOULTRIE AND PIATT. IN EAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS...CHAMPAIGN...COLES...DOUGLAS...EDGAR AND VERMILION.

* FROM 10 PM CDT THIS EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

* RAINFALL TOTALS OF 3 TO 5 INCHES WERE WIDESPREAD SATURDAY MORNING...BASICALLY IN AREAS BETWEEN HIGHWAY 51 AND THE I-57 CORRIDOR. THE HEAVIEST RAIN OCCURRED FROM CHAMPAIGN URBANA NORTHWEST ALONG I-74 TO FAR SOUTHEAST MCLEAN COUNTY...WHERE TOTALS OF 5 TO 8 INCHES WERE REPORTED. WHILE SOME OF THIS FLOODING WAS STARTING TO RECEDE...IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME TO END. ADDITIONALLY...AN AREA OF THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAIN IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO EAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS TOWARD MIDNIGHT... AND CONTINUE THROUGH THE NIGHT.

* WITH THE AMOUNT OF RAIN THAT HAS FALLEN...VERY LITTLE ADDITIONAL RAIN CAN BE ABSORBED BY THE GROUND BEFORE RUNNING OFF. THIS WILL RESULT IN AN INCREASED FLASH FLOOD POTENTIAL AGAIN OVERNIGHT.
