Two great horned owls rescued from dumpster

It's an animal rescue unlike any you've ever seen before; two baby owls now named Grover and Diver were found in a dumpster, thrown away like garbage. But thankfully a Good Samaritan saw them and called for help.

Last week the Arizona Humane Society got a call from the Phoenix Police Department after someone spotted two baby owls in a dumpster near 19th Avenue and Camelback Road.

"They were actually in pretty good shape, why somebody would put them in a dumpster, I have no clue," said Bob Fox.

The 5-week-old great horned owls were found sitting on a bag of trash, too young to know how to fly away. Luckily the Good Samaritan called just in time to save the owls.

"People really care, and I think that's a really important thing to understand, that these are little lives, and they'll grow up and have a great function," said Fox.

The humane society's emergency animal technicians went to the scene and jumped right into the dumpster to rescue the little guys. The owls were then transported to the Wild at Heart Raptor facility where they are being taken care of.

"Here they'll go through a course of life food training, we have adult great horns that will show them how to catch their own prey," he said.

Oscar and Diver are now in good health and doing well with the rescue group.
