New Butte Regional Transit and Operation Center Open for Business

New Butte Regional Transit and Operation Center Open for Business

The new Butte Regional Transit Operations & Maintenance Center celebrated its grand opening today at the new facility.

The $35 million center on Huss Drive includes a new bus maintenance building, operations building, administrative office facility and several other on-site and off-site improvements.

Butte County Association of Governments Executive Director Jon Clark credited the design/construction team with finding efficiencies and value engineering solutions that helped keep the project on task and within budget.

Construction Management firm Kitchell CEM has been involved in this project from the outset, commencing with a two-day value engineering session. Kitchell was later awarded the Construction Management contract, and will oversee all the maintenance of the center through its Kitchell Facilities Management (KFM) division. Butte County recognized the combining construction and facility management as a tremendous benefit and value.

“The new Butte Regional Transit Operations & Maintenance Facility will greatly improve our ability to better maintain the B-Line bus fleet, better serve the 1.4 million riders who annually use Butte Regional Transit, and improve overall efficiency and delivery of transit services within the cities and Butte County” said Executive Director Jon Clark.

The 10-acre facility is the operations hub of the Butte Regional Transit system or the B-line, and the administrative offices for Butte County Association of Governments and its B-Line operations contractor, Transdev.

In 2017 installation of a large shade canopy with photovoltaic panels will be added to the bus parking areas of the facility, and should provide for most of the electrical needs of the entire facility. The photovoltaic array is one of many sustainable elements of the project, which anticipates LEED Silver certification.
