Students say they were physically assaulted by Chico Police officer in viral video

Two Chico State students say they were verbally and physically assaulted by Chico Police and for no reason.

On Saturday morning, one of the students shot video of the incident on her cell phone.

According to police, they pulled over a car that did not have a working license plate light off the Esplanade.

Officer Steve Dyke says the driver of that car, 19 year old Nicole Braham, got out of the car but refused to get back in.

Police say, after several attempts to get her to get back in, officer dyke had to put her in a control hold for her cooperation.

Now with more than 80,000 views on social media, Police Chief Mike O'Brien says this all could have been avoided.

Police said officers attempted to detain Hemphill who was filming the incident, for safety purposes.

Hemphill resisted and was put in handcuffs.

She would later summit to a blood alcohol screening where she had .141 blood alcohol content.
