9-year-old raises $25,000 for Feed My Starving Children

A nine-year-old Minnesota girl is determined to raise more than $50,000 for Feed My Starving Children. She has already raised $25,000 through her own website and blog for the nonprofit - about halfway to her goal.

On Saturday, Sanya Pirani gathered 50 of her friends and family members to pack meals together at the Feed My Starving Children headquarters.

One meal through FMSC costs just 22 cents and is shipped to people in need all over the world, meaning the fourth grader has already raised enough money to feed an entire village of 700 people in Haiti.

Organizers with FMSC are impressed by someone willing to do so much at such a young age.

"Especially in this capacity, I haven't seen anyone else fundraiser at this level," Katie Olson, an organizer with FMSC, said.

Even Rep. Jim Nash (R-Waconia) also came to lend a hand.

Pirani is ultimately hoping to raise $56,210 to feed children and families in communities all over the world.
In addition to helping people internationally, Sanya does charity work around her community. She also wants to be a pediatrician when she grows up so she can help even more people.
