HICKORY, NC - Acetyl fentanyl is an analog of the cancer drug fentanyl. It has been connected to the overdose deaths of numerous people in the northeast, and now North Carolina's Department of Health and Human Services has credited the drug with three deaths since January.The deaths occurred in Transylvania, Sampson and Person counties. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports the drug can have a potency that is five time higher than heroin.
