Judge: Waseca teen who plotted school attack no longer a threat

The Waseca, Minn. teen accused of plotting an explosive attack on a local high school will be sent home Wednesday after expert evaluations concluded he no longer poses a threat to the community.

John LaDue, 19, was arrested in April 2014 after allegedly plotting a massacre at the school and pleaded guilty last fall to felony possession of an explosive device. He was 17 when he was arrested after police discovered him in a storage unit with bomb making materials.

Judge Joseph Chase also cited expert evaluations that concluded autism wasn't the issue, but his depression

LaDue will be released at noon from an unidentified mental health facility in Minnesota. Judge Chase ordered he go to school or get a job to ensure he engages with others.

He completed his jail sentence in January, and state officials initially planned to send him to a treatment facility in Georgia, but something didn't align and a judge ordered he be treated in Minnesota.
