Chico firefighters attack North Ave. house fire

Fire Fighters in Chico are looking into what caused a fire inside a vacant home Monday night. It broke out around 8 p.m. at a home on North Avenue, right across the street from Bidwell Junior High School. A neighbor, working in his yard, noticed smoke coming from the roof and called 9-1-1.

The fire reportedly started on the ground floor and made its way into the attic. No one had been living in the home since the most recent tenants were evicted about three weeks ago. Since then, it's been the target of trespassers and vandals. Fire officials are not yet calling this fire suspicious but will only say it is under investigation. They're also working to determine the extent of the damage.
