    Dr. Joel N. Myers Receives Distinguished Alumni Award from Penn State

    AccuWeather Founder, President, and Chairman given the highest honor bestowed upon a Penn State graduate by Board of Trustees.

    AccuWeather Global Weather Center - June 1, 2016 - Dr. Joel N. Myers, Founder, President, and Chairman of AccuWeather, the global leader in weather information and digital media, has been recognized by The Pennsylvania State University with the Distinguished Alumni Award, the highest recognition the University bestows on an individual. The Penn State Board of Trustees selected eight alumni in 2016 for this honor.

    The prestigious award will be presented at the Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony on June 4 during Penn State's Alumni Reunion Weekend. Graduates who have received a bachelor's degree or an advanced degree are eligible for consideration. Nominations are submitted annually beginning each August, with selections made at the Penn State Board of Trustees' January meeting.

    "It is an honor to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award from Penn State," stated Myers. "Thanks to the University, I attended the best meteorological program in the world and received a wonderful education, earned three degrees, led meaningful research, had the opportunity to teach, and experienced life-changing mentorship from professors."

    Dr. Myers received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in meteorology from Penn State University, where he was an important influence as a faculty member for nearly 20 years and a force on the Board of Trustees for 33 years. He continues to serve as an Emeritus Trustee, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to education. Appreciative of the great impact Penn State has had on his life, Dr. Myers has made many commitments to excellence in education. He has awarded dozens of scholarships to Penn State students in meteorology and information technology and made the largest gift ever received by the Meteorology Department to fund the university's state-of-the-art weather station, as well as donating one of the largest weather vanes in the world which sits atop Beaver Stadium and walk-in sundials at The Nittany Lion Inn and The Arboretum at Penn State.
