STATE COLLEGE, Pa. June 10, 2009 - AccuWeather, Inc., the world's leading multimedia weather information source, today announced that company Chief Executive Officer, Barry Lee Myers, has been appointed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Science Advisory Board (SAB) to be a member of their newly created Environmental Information Services Working Group. The Working Group will advise SAB on improving communications among the various public, private, and academic sectors who work with NOAA and NWS and the creation and use of weather and other environmental information.

The role of the Working Group is to advise NOAA on the condition of, and capabilities of improving, communications among the various public, private, and academic entities engaged in environmental information matters. It will be composed of about 18 members nationwide who, by reason of knowledge, experience, or training, are considered especially qualified to represent users of NOAA environmental information services, including America's weather and climate industry and the media.
As a leading expert in weather information exchange and public/private weather partnerships, Myers has worked closely with the National Weather Service (NWS) and NOAA. He previously served as advisor to the Director of the U.S. National Weather Service at the U.N.'s World Meteorological Organization Meetings in Geneva, Switzerland in 2001 and 2008. Since 1990, Myers has been a member of the Board of Directors of the American Weather and Climate Industry Association and its predecessor, the Commercial Weather Services Association. In this role, Myers has been the chief federal-relations officer representing the weather and climate industry.
