Violeta Yas

First CD/DVD you ever bought?
Keith Sweat. I love R&B!
What made you choose weather/meteorology/broadcasting as a career?
I absolutely love the fast-paced environment of the news industry. Being able to break a story provides such an adrenaline rush for me, and I genuinely enjoy informing people of what I think they need to know, whether that be a sports story, a weather story, good news or bad news. I think we have a very important job in that sense.
Weirdest job you've ever held?
I've worked at tons of restaurants, but the weirdest job by far was selling "high-end" knives one summer. I had to go awkwardly to people's homes and set up all these cheesy infomercial-like presentations. Needless to say, I stunk because the only set of knives I sold was to my parents.
Favorite sports team? Music? Movie genre?
YANKEES, YANKEES, and YANKEES. I grew up in North Jersey and have lived and worked in NYC for the last couple of years. I was working in the Bronx before moving to Pennsylvania.
Any weird talents?
I played the flute for 10 years and can still read music. I also played the violin and a bit of piano as a kid. I have a very musical family... my parents were very successful musicians in Argentina and still perform in the tri-state area as a duo.
Right or left handed?
Righty.
Last movie you watched/book you read?
"The Watchmen" was amazing! I really like comics/graphic novels. I'm currently reading "V for Vendetta." Slooooowly, but surely.
Favorite day of the year?
Halloween! It's so much fun getting to be someone else for a day, and I can't say no to free candy!
Celebrity other people think you resemble?
Nine times out of 10, people tell me I look like Shakira. My hair is naturally curly like hers, and I used to be blonde. Hey, I think she is adorable... so I'm OK with that!
Song you hate the most?
Anything by Katy Perry or Ke$ha will be turned off immediately.
If you could go back or forward in time, where would you go?
I'd definitely go back to the 1940s/1950s. I love the glamour of Old Hollywood.
Coffee or Tea?
Coffee by a landslide, but I also often drink an Argentinian tea called "mate" (pronounced "MAH-tei") that is very traditional of our culture. It also contains caffeine, so I guess I don't discriminate.
Do you "label" yourself any certain stereotype?
I don't consider this a stereotype because I suppose it's sort of true, but I'm often told I'm "one of the guys," and I guess I'd have to agree. I love to play, watch and talk sports... which isn't the best conversation starter for a group of women.
What's a word you say a lot?
Talk about stereotypical, but "how you doin'" is probably at the top of the list. I also exaggerate a lot, so if it's a few degrees below normal outside, I'd probably say "it's madddddd cold!"
Favorite age you have been so far?
I can't say I have a specific number. I am not afraid of getting old because I feel so young! You could say I'm like a fine wine...
Your current desktop picture?
A picture of my Yorkie Poo, Shorty. She's still in NYC; I miss her!
Most influential person in your life?
My parents... hands down. The amount of courage it takes to sacrifice your family, friends and career to move to a completely different country in order to give your children better opportunities is just astounding. They are fearless, honest, hardworking and nonjudgmental, and I try day-in and day-out to live my life in the same manner.
Favorite season?
SUMMER! I could literally spend the entire day at the beach. However, I do love snowboarding, so it's nice to stay active when the beach is not an option.
PC or MAC?
Eeek! I have yet to choose my fate. Although I must say, I absolutely LOVE my iPhone.
What would I find in your refrigerator right now?
I cook pretty often so probably leftovers. I almost always have an avocado laying around, a gallon of water, and ice cream is a must-have.
