Jalelah Sophia Ahmed joined the AccuWeather team in September 2011 as a Television Weather Broadcaster. Having grown up in State College, PA., Ahmed frequently rode past the AccuWeather global headquarters on her way home. During her last semester at Penn State University as an undergraduate, double majoring in broadcast journalism and international politics, Ahmed set a new goal;travel the world and land a job with the prestigious weather company whose home base was near and dear to her heart. By September 2011 Ahmed had achieved both goals. After a busy summer with stops in Cairo, Istanbul, Khartoum, Sudan and London, Ahmed applied for the position of television broadcaster. By the grace of God and the support of her two wonderful parents, which she credits for all of her accomplishments, she was afforded the opportunity to work for AccuWeather. Since, Ahmed has embarked on a new goal awakened by the words of AccuWeather's Director of Digital Media Content and Operations, Tom Loebig, and that is to "be the best reporter you can be." And that's exactly what she plans to do.
Jalelah loves being with her family and friends and is the youngest of three children. She has an older brother, Eshan, and an older sister, Sarah. Together they have given her four handsome nephews and one beautiful niece. When she's not working, you can find her at her "nanny's house," catching a Steelers, Lakers or Pirates game, chowing down on some good home-cooked food. With family in State College and Khartoum, Sudan, Ahmed grew up understanding the value of people over things. She's visited her family in Sudan several times and always has a hard time saying goodbye. She credits her mother for instilling in her values such as kindness and respect. And her father taught her by example, early, the importance of setting goals and working hard to achieve your dreams.
