For the fourth year in a row Aspen Fashion Week previewed the best in winter sportswear for the upcoming 2012/2013 season. The annual event includes daily outdoor runway shows from both ski and fashion industry brands under the backdrop of Ajax mountain. We identified the top ten trends over the course of the runway shows.

Yellow Primaries
Bold yellows are a standout color of the season. Skea showed a shiny yellow down jacket that was slightly nipped at the waist to form a flattering cut, and featured a fur collar. KJUS showed what might have been one of the most creative pieces of the entire week-they dyed their down in bold colors (including yellow) and used a transparent fabric so that the color of the down fibers showed through.

Metallics
Silver always seems to appear in the flashiest of ski outerwear, but for next season Skea will introduce metallic fabrics in a variety of colors. A standout was a monochromatic ensemble in purple. Obermeyer will introduce a longer insulated piece next season in a unique cut equally well suited to both skiing and heading out on the town, shown here in silver.

Traditional Ski Sweaters
For young people's entire lifetimes of skiing they have worn more or less the same layering system-baselayer, fleece or synthetic midlayer, and an outer shell. But traditional ski sweaters were everywhere on the runways last week, so it's worth considering switching up your midlayer.
