Hiking in the winter is a fantastic way to switch up your exercise routine and get some fresh air. If you're a hiking rookie, it is easy to feel intimidated. Which is why it is important to control the things you can control

Make sure you check local weather reports and make sure conditions are favorable. If you are a first-timer, make sure you layer accordingly and head out nice and early. You do not want to be caught in the dark on your first hike. There are also some things you can bring to keep you safe in case your hike throws you a curveball: a charged cell phone, a few ways to start a fire, energy bars, a head lamp and first-aid kit.
