The last month of 2012 offers us some great views in the sky. The constellation Gemini (The Twins), will rise in the northeast this month, just next to the constellation Orion. In association with Gemini, one of the best meteor showers of the year is upcoming. The Geminid Meteor Shower will peak on the nights of Dec. 13, and 14, where nearly 120 meteors per hour can be seen. To get a good view, be sure to find an area with a dark sky.
Also this month, the asteroids Ceres and Vesta reach opposition, which is the best time to see them in the sky. They can be found near the same constellations, just south of Jupiter. Also, from the Dec. 9 to 21, Mercury, Venus and Saturn will all line up nicely in the Eastern Sky, just before dawn. Be sure to head to Accuweather.com's astronomy page for your local stargazing forecast if you'd like to see any of these events.
