September Gardening Tips
Sep 7, 2010; 9:21 AM ET
So many things to do the month of September...it does not matter what zone you are living in, you are busy! Over the next little while you will discover articles on my site that will help you grow as a gardener.
Some of the articles to help you include:
-The Many Uses of Garlic
Most of us are only exposed to one type of garlic in supermarkets, so don't realize how many varieties there really are, and the various benefits of garlic other than just for cooking.

- Time-traveling Tulips
You may be surprised to learn that many of the same elegant flowers that inspired "Tulipmania" in the 1600s, and appeared in paintings of the Dutch Masters at that time, are still available to plant in gardens today.
- Fall Landscaping for Wildlife
This fall as you clean up some of the brush around your yard, why not leave some for the wildlife this winter. They'll be glad for the food and cover.
- Fall Planting of Trees
Fall is the ideal time to plant a tree--both for the gardener and the tree!

- The Not-So-Silent Garden
While the options for reducing noise from off our properties are limited, there are many ways we can reduce noise in our landscapes and gardens.
- Understanding Lawn Thatch
If you want a healthy, attractive, and soft lawn to walk on, then you need to understand the basics of the lawn component called "thatch."
- Is It True, or Not?
Watch for these myths in your gardening reading and recommendations from friends.

How about articles on Controlling Crabgrass or Growing Cool Season Vegetables or Ladybugs or When to do Fall Chores...?
Each week I update the site with new articles and if there are articles that come in during the week that are time sensitive, they will go up right away. I encourage you to visit and grow along with gardeners from over 200 countries so far who have visited.
Other September tidbits...
-Longwood Gardens has launched its Plant Explorer website. Plant Explorer provides unprecedented access to plant records, garden information and interactive maps.
- What is xeriscaping?
Xeriscaping is a form of gardening that uses sounds methods of planting for water conservation. For example, using plants native to your geographical area that can do without supplemental irrigation. Colorado is one of the leading states doing research on xeriscaping and this website from Colorado State University is a good resource.
