Flowers are one of the most common gifts you can expect to see on Valentine's Day. In fact, 35 percent of holiday flower sales in the United States are purchased as gifts for significant others. The most popular flower to give is, unsurprising, the rose.
Most of the roses sold in the US are imported from South America. Roses require very specific conditions for optimal growth, and Colombia in particular has a perfect setting. Eighty percent of all flowers and 65 percent of roses are imported to the States from Colombia. The conditions that make this region so perfect for roses is a combination of cool nights, plenty of daytime sunshine, and ample amounts of rain.
