    June 23, 2013, 1:43:17 PM EDT

Severe storms pushing across the Dakotas toward Minnesota Friday afternoon have had a history of producing damaging wind gusts, very large hail and tornadoes.

The strongest storms in South Dakota have produced hail up to the size of tennis balls and wind gusts greater than 80 mph.

The thunderstorms are riding along the northern rim of heat surging across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest.
