A winter storm consisting of snow and an icy mix spread across the Ohio Valley, mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Sunday. Freezing rain also created problems throughout Texas, Kentucky, Kansas and Tennessee.
Early Sunday morning, almost 5 inches of snow fell in West Virginia, causing severe roadway conditions.
By Sunday night, a foot of snow was recorded in Wilmington, Del.

Farther north, the Maryland State Police declared that a snow emergency was in place for portions of the state, prohibiting parking on roads and streets designated as snow emergency routes.
Multiple vehicle crashes occurred due to snow-covered and icy roads in Pennsylvania Sunday afternoon. Crashes took place along I-95 southbound, the Pennsylvania Turnpike I-76, 276 and 476.
A ground stop due to ice and snow was in effect at the Philadelphia International Airport and the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Sunday afternoon. Departure traffic headed to La Guardia, JFK and Newark International Airport were also subject to ground stop programs due to weather, according to the FAA.
Heavy snow fell in Philadelphia, making conditions for the kickoff of the Philadelphia Eagles game were near-zero visibility.
