Thanksgiving Day featured some lake-effect snow showers across the Great Lakes region, as frigid temperatures plunged all the way down to the Gulf Coast.

Rain, freezing rain and snow slowed traffic and caused excessive airport delays across the East for the busiest travel day of the year on Wednesday.

NWS-trained spotters reported 4.8 inches of snow in Bethel, N.C. Three inches of accumulation fell in Summersville, W. Va.

Freezing rain was reported as far south as Georgia.

Closed roads and flights delays caused travel hold ups across Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, the Virginias and New England. Some residual flight delays held up takeoff at airports with clear weather conditions as well.
